Evaluation and pictures
My Brief was to create an album cover , a CD package a inlay and a logo for my an artist which i chose it was important that , the package incorporated my artist. My aim was to experiment with all kinds of techniques , I chose the artist TLC which was a girls group made up of three females which peaked in the 90's but broke up when one of the member died; they were a contrversial band who expressed there feelings about sex and female empowerment; the member who died called Lisa Lopes or her band name , 'left eye' named this because she had problems with her eye on the left she wore an eye pad which was made of a condom (picture below),
from this i thought it would be a good idea to base my package on the durex condom box, so from that point i based my package on the box.
I started off by creating logo , to do this i first looked another logos and put them into different categories such as abstract , a word mark, an emblem ect. after this i decided what type of logo i wanted to do and that was an abstract logo, i experimented with lots of different logos on paper, when i decided which logo i wanted, i drew it bigger and scanned it in and edited it on adobe illustrator to get a neater look on illustrator , after that i put colour on it. After this i worked on my Inlay i worked on all different types of booklets, i wanted to make a booklet that was appealing to the eye , so thats why i chose the star book, for this i created some backgrounds which i saw on youtube tutorials and i also wrote down the lyrics. The next step was for me to create a package i already had the idea to make the CD package look like the durex box, so from there it was how i wanted the box and the inside particles to open so i went into the Cd shops and saw how the CD's open creatively, i also researched online different types of CD packages, thats when i discovered the jukebox look-a-like package, from this point i was creating surface patterns. *
I was inspired by the oasis packaging album called alcohol and cigarettes with this package they created the package to look like a box of cigarette; this really intriuged me because
I think my main packaging outside was the best i was proud of that, because it really looked like the box and with that i focused on the little details and adapted it to fit my artists and what they stand for.
I feel like i could have improved my inside packages , i feel that the packages were not as neat as they could be*
I really enjoyed researching, designing and creating my final outcome, i would enjoy creating another package, which i could use for other things or maybe even another project.*
I am thinking of linking this project to my next project by joining with the theme of women power and music , i am thinking of picking out the lyrics and adapting them in some way to give a bigger picture; of the messages which music artists are really portraying to young children and even influential adults.

my actual album cover with analysis
My package design
This my inspiration for my packages, the oasis album called alcohol and cigarettes, , the package which looks like a cigarette box.
I am planning on creating my CD package to look like a durex box to go with my theme and also go with my research
I would like my packaging inside the condom box to look like a condom; like my inlay , CD and poster.
This is what my package cover looked like after i created it.

My genre type and how they are usually portrayed
The artist i chose create hip hop and r and b music similar to the artists above, the packaging covers have the artist who created the music , i can't do this for my package , so in order for me to design and create a package i have to do something completely different.

CD Prototype experiments
These are some ideas i had for how my CD package will unfold and the components inside, how they will fit into my big image, these were just rough sketches from ideas that i have seen in music shops, on the internet and in life generally i had a lot of ideas but these were three main ideas that i liked which i wanted to go thither with. the first row are what the packages would like closed, the second row is how and what they would like open, and the third row is what they may look like as net and before i glued or sewed them together.
On the far right is an image of what i wanted or an idea which i had to make my album look like i was inspired by two of the coloured images just above and below it to thee right because i liked the way it opened it was appealing to my eyes, so what i did was combine the two ideas to create the one package, the coloured image below i adjusted that by switching the CD compartment to the middle and i also adjusted the top one by making it able to fold and slide up instead of just sliding up. the last sketch was the net which was simple enough but it was not really challenging so i was looking for a new idea, to improve on this one.
The second image or the image in the middle is a whole knew idea, and i decided to use circles because you do not really find circles funny enough as CD packages although that is the CD's iconic shape, i was inspired from the Simpsons soundtrack shaped like a doughnut, i thought it would be cool if the two outside folds could fold up into each other and then the CD, inlay and poster would slide out of the sealed envelopes created; the net was still a very simple net (not drawn to accuracy just a rough idea). Again although i did like this package i felt that it was not challenging enough.
The third package was a simple box but the the ideas is that it has three more packages on the inside which open creatively 12cm by 12 cm , the first package which opens up is the CD i was inspired by a few images i saw online and i decided to recreate this design, the inlay was going to be created with the star book which i have previously attempted to create and i loved, and then the poster which was a simple fold.Out of all of these designs i feel that this is the best idea and i think that i will run with this idea but if i get a better one i can incorporate the ideas with each other.
This is the image of the smaller CD package which is going to be inside the bigger package, it is just a prototype made out of paper therefore it was not as stable as what the final will look like, but from creating this i got a clear idea how my CD will open and the mechanics used to create this.
This is another image of it to the side and slightly open, looking at this makes me slightly more confident that with card or even stronger material that it all open and close the way i want it to and be sturdy enough to hold the CD.
This is the prototype closed and it was exactly the way i wanted it the CD was clearly shown enough , and you could not see the peer mechanism which pushes the CD up.
This is the net of the CD packet open it is just a rough copy nut it is simple but effective, and the image below is the net closed in my next prototype all i need to do is neaten up the edges and add tabs which will make the package close properly.
This is a rough prototype drawing net of Outer box simple but hopefully with my design it will be more effective, the measurements were a rough scale, i will improve on that later on.
This is a cut out image of my net , the one above, it had the tabs so all i needed to do was glue it together to see if it was they way i wanted it to be.
These pictures above are the images i took at different angles and i really like it, i feel with my images on it and it being created neater it will look good.
This is the final images of my prototype and showing that the cd package will be able to fit into the package correctly.
